New Directions

After 15 courses and 130 hours, I have graduated from Corporate Coach University! It has been a terrific experience to study with fellow students from all over the globe, including Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Norway, Finland, Scotland, Spain, etc., although we never met face-to-face.
Speaking of students, for several years I have had a vision that someday I would like to counsel students to help them pick the career and course of study that is right for them. This has been reinforced as I have worked with so many clients who didnt select the right major/career for themselves the first time, and are making a change in their 30s or 40s (and even 50s). I just read an article that 6 of 10 college students change majors, 50% take 5 or more years to finish college, one third change schools, and one third change their field of work a year after leaving school. Why? Because 50% choose a major based on anticipated earnings, or family expectations, or other reasons unrelated to true interest in the field.
As I have shared this future vision of helping students pick their careers based on their own interests and personalities, people have started saying to me Why wait? Why not now? I am hearing that there is a real need and market for this service right now, so I am starting to do some marketing to college students and their parents. The services will include interest assessments (Birkman and/or Strong Interest Inventory), and time discussing possibilities and options with the client. I am also helping kids write their first resume and look for that first job.
This new direction doesnt replace the services already provided by SIA Consulting, it is in addition to them.
